What if the journey was the event? Last year, I a What if the journey was the event?

Last year, I asked a wild question: could we take 35 eventprofs to Switzerland by train - and use the ride to show what sustainable travel really looks like?

Spoiler: we didn’t just talk about it. We did it.

Thanks to @scib_switzerland, @zurichcvb @visitlucerne, @eurostar, @tgvlyria and a dream-team of partners, the Go Sustainable Study Trip by rail was born.

Fast forward to 6am at Kings Cross: a private Eurostar carriage, a sustainability pub quiz before breakfast and 35 strangers becoming travel buddies.

We zigzagged to Lucerne via Paris (no Metro drama, just a smooth rapeseed fuelled coach transfer thanks to @metropolisdmcfrance), rolled through France on a TGV with rhino sightings (yep), mindful moments, train bingo and snacks.

And then came the moment: a 1930s Red Arrow vintage train waiting in Basel. Just one carriage. Just for us. Cheese, wine, mountain views - and yes, I sat in the driver’s cabin.

By the time we arrived, we were 97% lighter in carbon and 100% more connected.

The train wasn’t just transport. It was the magic.
