Discover why Troxy is good enough for a Brit Icon
One of our favourite venues, Troxy, has recently been in the headlines as the venue Robbie Williams has chosen to perform a special concert in celebration of his winning the BRIT Icon Award – look out for the screening of it on ITV later this year when you can see the full concert and also get a chance to see this beautiful venue (oh and maybe one or two of the Evolve staff too!). We love Troxy venue hire as it’s such a versatile space and over the years we’ve used it to host some fabulous award shows. Here’s why we’ve fallen for its vintage charms.
Troxy has been many things in its time, since opening as a Grand Cinema in 1933 to a rehearsal space for the Royal Opera House, to a community hub for Mecca Bingo and now a multifaceted event space. One thing that has remained constant over the years is the striking original 1930s art deco features. This is a fabulous venue for an event set within this decadent era; think Great Gatsby gatherings to Hollywood glamour to a cheery Charleston.
The vintage touches begins as you approach the venue with the original facia lovingly restored to the way it would have looked in days gone by, but with the modern twist of architectural lighting available for your brand theming if desired.
Once inside the Foyer, deco themed light fittings and a spectacular stained glass atrium take guests on their first step back in time. By the time they reach the Grand Hall they are truly immersed as they see the 14 metre high art deco wall features that flanks the stage, illuminated by more architectural lighting to bring out each unique characteristic. Audiences exploring the Circle need to remember to look up to get the full experience completed by the magnificent ceiling rose.
People often muse over what would happen if walls could talk….well these walls can do even better than that, they can play the sounds of a full orchestra! Behind the art deco panels are the pipes, 1728 to be exact ranging from 16 ft to 1 inch, of The Mighty Wurlizter. Recently restored, this is Europe’s largest Wurlitzer Theatre Pipe Organ and it’s a truly captivating sight with the sounds even more incredible. The console takes centre stage and consists of four keyboards, one pedal board and 241 stop keys. Today this can be used as walk-up music for award ceremonies, as accompaniment to the immersive cinema productions, for classic tea dances served with a twist and for the ultimate sing along or carol singing at a Christmas party.
During events in the 1930s we have it on good authority that they used to spray perfume scents into the venue to keep it smelling fresh, something that the venue is able to facilitate should you wish to add a sensory element to your event.
In more recent history Troxy venue hire has hosted immersive conferences for Ted Baker, Cancer Research UK and TED Talks, seasonal parties for Net-A-Porter and Google as well as becoming the home to awards including Artist And Manager, Corpcomms Awards and Masters of Marketing. The venue also got the Royal seal of approval with Prince Charles visiting to support Business In The Community.
