The Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival 2019 took place at the end of June. We were lucky enough to see the incredible displays and enjoy the venue which was overflowing with flowers. The event was curated by creative florists Leigh Chappell, Janne Ford and Claire Bowen who bought together over 40 of the most prestigious floral designers and British flower growers from around the country.

House & Garden is a bright, airy, colourful space, full of quirky features and gothic details. It was built in 1747 in Twickenham by Horace Walpole who created a ‘Gothic Castle’ with pinnacles, battlements and a round tower. It’s a stunning venue for event hire with its gorgeous backdrop and landscaped gardens it’s a memorable space for private dinners, summer parties and away days. When it was first built it quickly became a tourist attraction but Walpole limited visitors to four a day. Today the capacities are more generous and it’s perfect for up to 100 guests.
The Strawberry Hill House Flower Festival 2019 showcased some fabulous floral creative designers and reflected Walpole’s ideas about visual impact, colour and design, playing with the drama of light and dark. His garden was naturalistic and the flowers in the festival featured British garden flowers as well as putting sustainability at the heart of their displays (no oasis foam was used in any of the arrangements, which is quite an achievement). It was an inspirational festival and demonstrated what can be achieved with ‘grown not flower’ flowers at events.
