It may have only opened last year but with its striking, illuminated signage on the top of the property, the Sea Containers building on the South Bank is on its way to becoming an iconic venue for London events.
The building itself was originally designed to be a luxury hotel but instead was occupied as an office by a shipping company ‘Sea Container’ from which the building takes its name. Now restored to its former glory by Tom Dixon the venue comprises of office spaces, a hotel & restaurant and a range of event spaces. The flexibility of the Sea Containers is every event planner’s dream as it suits a range of events and can accommodate different size parties.
Offering nine spaces for hire there are plenty of unique and interested rooms to choose from and as they are all connected, the venue is perfect for one large event with lots of break out areas to explore. The roof terrace has to be their crowning glory with unbeatable views across London which are pretty breadth taking – even on the grey day when we visited – and it will be gorgeous this summer for watching the sunset. Sitting behind the Sea Containers sign, the rooftop is suitable for up to 150 people and is perfect for drinks receptions, celebrations and launches. Inside the venue you can still experience amazing views with floor to ceiling windows that overlook the Thames and take in St Paul’s Catherdral, The Oxo Tower, London Eye and the Shard.
Named for its fabulous curvaceous green bar, Cucumber is an ultra-modern space, ideal for receptions for up to 200 or dinners for 100 people. Next is their Amphitheatre, which spans across two event floors and features informal bench style seating and can host product launches, screenings & conferences for up to 200 guests. Level 12 is a blank canvas space that allows you to style the space to suit your brand and works well for seated dinners but can also be arranged into smaller rooms for meetings.
If you’re looking for a private balcony but feel the British weather might let you down, then the Sunset area provides an ideal solution with an open plan bar and lounge that would be perfect for receptions and also opens out onto a balcony with great views of London’s skyline. On the same level is The Wren, a small but beautiful dining room with double aspect windows and a private outdoor terrace
Moving down a floor is Level 12, a blank canvas room that can be used as one large space, accommodating a conference for 215 or a reception for 250, or it can be broken down into individual spaces for up to 60, or used as two or three rooms combined.
