New Restaurants Opening in London Autumn 2020

This year finding any restaurant open has been a wonderful thing, let alone a new restaurant opening.

But in a sign that things are starting to return to normal that’s just what’s happening. New restaurants are indeed opening in London and we’ve put together a list of some of the ones we’re the most excited about, plus a few reopenings to welcome you back.

Here’s our round up of new restaurants opening in London Autumn 2020

Louie, Covent Garden

A very exciting venture from Chiltern Firehouse’s Guillaume Glipa and Paris Society; Louie is a brand new four-storey townhouse restaurant-bar that’s set to open in September.

Named after both King Louis XIV and Louis Armstrong, Louie will be a Franco-New Orleans palace of fun, with a two-storey restaurant, a bar area, and a rooftop housed on the old L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon site in Covent Garden.

The restaurant will be headed up by chef Slade Rushing, who left the 2019 New Orleans Restaurant of the Year to come here. He’ll be plating up Creole and French cuisine in a dining room with ‘clean, light décor’. Expect refined, neutral shades and pared-back furnishings … except for the huge oyster bar and the vintage jukebox blasting out Duke Ellington.

The four-storey complex will feature a two-storey restaurant, bar and rooftop terrace, where you can soak up cocktails next to a roaring fire.

The Mitre, Hampton Court

For a bit of al freso dining look no further than Hampton Court, where two new riverside restaurants have just launched – from the same interior designer and former business brain behind country retreat Beaverbrook.

Originally used as ancillary accommodation for guests of King Charles II at Hampton Court Palace, The Mitre has been transformed into a beautiful boutique hotel, boasting 36 rooms and two gorgeous new riverside restaurants Signet 1665 and Coppernose, under the direction of chef Ronnie Kimbugwe — formerly of Gordon Ramsey.

Muse by Tom Aitkens

The critically acclaimed restaurant from the British Michelin-starred chef opened for the first time in January but returns in September.

Based in a converted Georgian townhouse on Belgravia’s charming Groom Place, Muse is split over two floors of a characterful mews house, with each floor boasting a fully open plan kitchen which allows diners to see the kitchen team at work. The space has been designed by Australian interior designer Rebecca Korner, who has combined an eclectic mix of furniture with splashes of jewel-toned marbles and rich woods.

The restaurant exclusively serves multi-course tasting menus, with Aikens drawing on his childhood memories and moments in his illustrious career to inspire dishes. The tasting menus evolve with each season and include stripped-back dishes which place an emphasis on one key ingredient or element.

Maison François

Maison François, a new brasserie and wine bar, boasts both a MasterChef star in the kitchen and family connections to top restaurants of London’s past. Matthew Ryle, a finalist in the 2018 series of the BBC’s MasterChef: The Professionals, will lead the kitchen at the new Duke Street whilst the founder, François O’Neill, is the son of Hugh O’Neill, who co-founded Knightsbridge hotspot Brasserie St. Quentin in 1980 – a collaboration with his cousin Quentin Crewe, who was the Evening Standard’s restaurant critic for nearly 20 years.

The restaurant will look to the grand brasseries of Paris, Lyon and Alsace for inspiration, with a menu incorporating the likes of rustic terrines, homemade saucisson and a dessert trolley stocked with the likes of Gateau Marjolaine and praline Paris-Brests.

Maison François will also feature an in-house bakery open from the early morning, as well as a downstairs wine bar called Frank’s, which will be open until midnight and boast a 250 bottle-strong wine list.

Cha Cha x Sister Jane

It’s an unusual pairing but one that we think will work as Latin American restaurant and bar, Cha Cha, partners up with clothing label Sister Jane to bring Latin flavours and music to Notting Hill.

The impressive, four-story corner building on Golborne Road will event include a showroom and studio for vintage-inspired clothing label Sister Jane, where guests are invited to meander through the myriad rooms, drink in hand. The menu, developed by Head Chef Kai Rykowski (ex Chiltern Firehouse), will feature Mediterranean cuisine with a Latino twist.

Breakfasters can look forward to cheese and truffle toasties, French toast with vanilla custard and rhubarb pistachio, and acai bowls. From 11am until midnight, an all-day menu features sharing plates of sea bass ceviche, tempura squid with wasabi mayo and lime, and oysters with green tomatillo and jalapeño mint gazpacho, as well as mains hot from the robata grill including a half lobster tail, duck breast and octopus. The rooftop bar – the only one in Notting Hill with spectacular views across the rooftops – will offer cocktails and bar snacks late into the evenings.
