We took a trip underneath Westminster to discover the atmospheric venue where Winston Churchill and his Cabinet lead Britain during the Second World War and we discovered that this iconic venue is perfect not just for conferences but is also a great space for receptions and parties – they’ve even held a few weddings there too.
Walking in Churchill’s footsteps is an atmospheric experience that guests won’t forget. In addition to the event spaces available to hire, you are also able to explore the dimly lit corridors and the museum, where there are some fascinating objects on display including Churchill’s PJs – think giant pink velvet onesie and you’re getting close. If you opt for a private tour in the evening many of the locations seen in The Darkest Hour are opened up, including the map room and the room where Churchill made his broadcast to the nation (his bedroom) and they include all sorts of memorabilia which have been left just as they were such as sugar cubes and worn down pencil stubs. The historic Harmsworth Room features a 1940’s electric generator wall packed with switches and dials, creating a stunning backdrop for your meeting or conference. This is a unique historical setting like no other and the digital display board can be personalised to show your own messages. This space is steeped in the atmosphere of a wartime bunker but is fitted with all the required event elements of a modern venue.
The Learning Suite
The Learning Suite is a pleasant, work focused space and would work well for business meetings or as a break out workshop space.
The Switch Room
Ideal for smaller intimate receptions and seated dinners for up to 20, pays homage to the Home Front during the Second World War in terms of décor and feel.
The HCA Auditorium
A bright, airy and modern dining space, combined with historic characteristics and a period feel. If you’d like to use it for formal dining or banquets there are plenty of creative ways you could style it with 1940s props and the venue are able to provide individual place settings with ration books and chocolate cigars.
