60 Second Interview with Ricky Paul Flowers

At Evolve Events we’re always on the look-out for that certain something that will help an event stand out and flowers are always a great starting point if you’re looking to make a statement which is why we love the work of florist Ricky Paul.

Ricky Paul Flowers

We recently discovered the work of Ricky Paul Flowers, an award winning floral design company, and we love how they have created a reputation for designs that are flamboyant and guaranteed to make an impression, such as their floral frames. We particularly like their floral sculptures – you may have seen their pink poodle at Square Meal where it is was probably the most Instagrammed image from the event. To find out more about Ricky Paul Flowers and what their plans are for next year we caught up with founder Ricky Jackson.

What makes Ricky Paul Flowers unique from other florists?

Ricky Paul Flowers is unique as we take inspiration from not just flowers but also fashion, theatre and set design. We love to work on theatrical floral weddings and events to really add wow factor with our unique style.

Over the years you’ve created some really elaborate designs – what’s the most unusual floral creation you’ve made?

We have worked on some amazing events over the years and we are now starting to be recognised within the industry for our flamboyant designs. We pride ourselves on supplying classically beautiful flowers but with a Ricky Paul twist and being based in Shoreditch we are fast becoming the go to floral design company for something cool and a little different.

We have worked on so many unusual floral ideas and designs from floral dogs, floral ice creams & huge floral paintings as well as supplying whole event set up of floral arrangements and huge table centre pieces.

Your floral sculptures are fabulous – can you tell us more about them and what sort of impact they can have at an event?

We LOVE to come up with really cool ways of working with flowers so our sculptures play a big part in our event designs and really add the wow factor. An amazing centre piece or a huge sculpture by an entrance for grand event can not only look beautiful but also tell a story or set the scene for a theme and will immediately create impact and usually will start people’s imagination as they wonder what will be instore for them during the rest of the event.

What’s your inspiration?

My inspiration to be different is an accumulation on my experience; I studied set design and theatre and from there went into interior design and then floristry. I know what we do isn’t for everyone but we certainly know how to make an impact. I have always loved to create something that made people smile and laugh as well as being very beautiful and I love that this really creates a talking point for any event. There is nothing I believe we can’t do with flowers and I feel that it’s important for us to keep that vision. We love it when someone comes to us with an idea they think can’t be achieved but we always find a way.

Are you working on any new sculptures to create and what can we expect in the future of Ricky Paul Flowers?

We are certainly working on some amazing idea right now:  we have a Jurassic park themed event which will be great fun; we will also be showing this year at the Quintessentially Atelier Wedding show so we are currently planning our amazing showcase; we have just finished a fab shoot with Conde Nast Brides magazine for the January issue that show our unique sculptures and elaborate designs with stunning flowers – I won’t give too much away but the pictures were amazing,

We also have Christmas coming up and we always work on some fabulous set ups for hotels and restaurants. Last year for The Groucho Club we sculptured a huge snow man coming down from the ceiling with snowflakes looking like a giant snow globe that looked amazing.  We also did an installation at Aqua Shard  with hand painted butterflies, curtains of fairy lights and hanging Swarovski crystals and dressed the glass staircases.

We’re already prepping for this Christmas and we have already started to plan tropical themes with parrots and pineapple dressed trees, so watch this space!!!
